What to tell the couple from hell.?

my best friends sadie and max are an on and off couple. sadie constantly treats max like crap and is usually the one who ends it. max tries to do everything he can to make her happy but it never seems to work. they had a pregnancy thrown into the mix a while ago and she had an abortion. no one is sure how max felt about it. because they are both my friends they come to me for advice. any ideas on what to tell them. i know its difficult because you cant see it for yourself but any help would be appreciated. we are all only 15.
