Could someone translate this into Spanish?
This defeat began the next period in Mexican history: the 289 year long colonial period. During this period, Mexico was known as “La Nueva Espana.” Though many wars took place during this period, the fiercest was the Chichimeca War which took place in Northern Mexico. It was fought between the Spaniards with their Indian allies against the Chichimecas (a group of nomads who inhabitited Northern Mexico). This period came to an end in 1807 when Napoleon I invaded Spain and gave the throne to his brother, Joseph. Mexicans’ ideas about the Spanish government split them into two groups: los conservadores y los liberals. The liberals wanted to fight for Mexico’s independence, so Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla, a liberal Catholic priest in Mexico declared Mexico’s independence on September 16 1810. This began the Mexican war of independence which lasted until 1821 when the Treaty of Cordoba was signed and the First Mexican Empire was officially formed. The name was changed to the United Mexican States two years later and Félix Fernández became the first president under the name Guadalupe Victoria.
