Is there any significance/story behind Beethoven's Sonata No. 8, specifically the Pathetique Movement?

I know there's probably not, but I was wondering if there was some story or significance behind Beethoven's famous Pathetique Movement from Sonata No 8? As in what inspired him to compose it, etc...Something along those lines.
