What are the differences and similarities between santeria and vodou (voodoo)?

I know that both religions are syncretic religions based on catholicism and West African beliefs, and they exist close to each other in the Caribbean region. But what are the main differences and what are the most similar elements? Why people believe in santeria and not voodoo or the other way around? What are the relations between people practicing vodoo and those who practice santeria?
